Emily Zugay, a TikTok creator, has jokingly started sharing her attempts at redesigning highly recognizable logos. Click here to watch one of her hilarious videos that have racked up millions of views and caught the attention of some of the country's largest brands. The logos she redesigned, while obviously not professionally made, have people agreeing that the iconic logos we see on signs or products really do matter when it comes to making an impression.

Of course, creating a logo isn’t as easy as Emily jokes about in her videos. Logos are the face of a business, product, or service. When you think of a business, you often immediately picture the logo in your mind. Whether it’s the golden arches of a famous fast-food restaurant or the apple with a bite out of it, those logos pop in your head right away. Likewise, when you see a logo that you’re familiar with, you instantly associate it with your memories, experiences, and interactions with the brand.

So naturally, you want your logo to make a lasting impression. But how do you get there? We have a few tips:

  1. Imagine Your Logo in Real Life: When designing your logo try to consider its intended uses. Where will the logo appear… websites, print pieces, apparel, and merchandise?

  2. Color is key: Using bright and bold colors in your logo can help grab people’s attention. However,  the colors should represent your brand’s personality. Every color evokes an emotion, which becomes its message for the viewers or customers.

  3. Use Shapes to Think Outside The Box: Shapes are a great way to make your logo stand out. As simple as it is, Target is a great example of designing a logo in a literal way that is different from simply using a square and with the company name appearing below it.

  4. Keep it Simple: The viewers should get the message at first glance of the logo. Take, for example, the Nike logo. Simple, neat, and clean logos are easily recognizable and scalable.
